Shutoff valves are found on water, gas and oil throughout your home or business. Shut off valves are installed to facilitate means of isolation when emergency shut off is required or service is required to be done on a particular section of the home or business. There are three most important shutoff valves in your home or business.
- Water main shut off
- Gas main shut off
- Toilet water shut off.
The most important is the main shutoff valve, which is used to turn off the water supply to your entire home. This valve is located either in the basement, on an exterior wall of the home, or in an underground box outside the home. Individual fixtures like toilets, sinks, and water heaters also have individual shutoff valves located near them. These valves are useful when plumbing repairs are necessary or when an emergency occurs, but they can also create their own problems. There are a few common problems that plumbers see year after year.
